EU Enlargement Director Paquet visits Samac

The Director responsible for Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Enlargement Directorate General of the European Commission, Jean-Eric Paquet, visited Samac on Monday, 23 June 2014.

Director Paquet met with the Mayor of Samac, Savo Minic, and other members of the Operational and Coordination Emergency Team and discussed situation in the municipality, which was one of the most severely affected in the last month’s unprecedented floods.

“The European Union will extend its support to the Municipality of Samac to build protection mechanisms against possible new floods, as well as in re-building of the economy and public infrastructure after the floods”, said Mr Paquet.

Jean-Eric Paquet noted that he was impressed with the commitment of the Samac citizens to rebuild their city. He further emphasised that other flood-affected municipalities will have to produce a detailed analysis of damages and rehabilitation modalities in time for the donors’ conference for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, scheduled for 16 July in Brussels and co-organised by the European Commission, France and Slovenia.

Mayor Savic accompanied Director Paquet on his short tour around Samac, including visits to the Samac City Hall, Police Station and Samac High School, all heavily damaged during the floods.
