HR/EUSR Inzko meets ICTY Chief Prosecutor Brammertz

The High Representative and EU Special Representative Valentin Inzko confirmed his continued support to ensuring that war criminals are brought to justice when he met with ICTY Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz in Sarajevo today.

The HR/EUSR reiterated that the OHR and EUSR will continue to support the ICTY until the remaining fugitives are arrested and cases before the ICTY concluded.

In the past the OHR has used the powers of his office, in coordination with BiH and international partners, to contribute ensuring that justice is done, in the interests of all the victims of such crimes. “The review of these measures and potential future measures will continue to be coordinated with the ICTY,” said the HR/EUSR today.

HR/EUSR Inzko and ICTY Chief Prosecutor Brammertz agreed that without justice there can be no reconciliation, and as ICTY looks to the completion of its mandate it is important that strong, independent and capable BiH judicial institutions are in place at the State level to deal with war crimes cases independently and professionally.

Chief Prosecutor Brammertz welcomed the HR/EUSR’s continued support to the activities of the Tribunal.
