The first children’s one-minute film festival “Do You Have a Minute?” was held today in Banja Luka. Twenty-two films shown at the festival were entirely created by children from 11 municipalities who are part of the program “Enhancing the System of Social Protection and Inclusion of Children in Bosnia and Herzegovina”.
The shortlisted films, selected from a total of 105 films, were shown at the Festival in the presence of film authors, their families and schoolmates, as well as representatives from governments, the EU Delegation in BiH, UNICEF and many other guests.
The winners in several categories were later announced at a formal ceremony.
“The one-minute junior methodology has been used in BiH as a new model of active participation. Children from 11 municipalities were trained on how to identify a specific problem in their community and on how to present it to the general public through a one-minute film which would raise awareness and encourage decision makers to address the issue. We are very pleased to see that it proved to be very successful with over 100 films being entirely produced by children. They also suggest concrete ways to improve their environment to make it more inclusive for all children. Several films already inspired representatives of local communities to take action and we believe that many children who participated in this initiative will continue to demand for their rights and to take an active role in improving their environment”, said Ms. Florence Bauer, UNICEF representative in BiH.
The Program “Enhancing the System of Social Protection and Inclusion of Children in Bosnia and Herzegovina” is funded by the EU and implemented by UNICEF, with government authorities at all levels and other partners. The Programme is financed by the EU since 2008 from the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) in the total amount of 4.1 million euro, with the objective to support enhancing systems for adequate social protection and inclusion of children and their families.
“We are funding this project because we want children to be able to realise their capacity to be self-supporting and emotionally healthy. Empowering them to release their creativity through this film festival is part of that. This is about supporting productive lives and engaged, productive citizens. Today’s children deserve to be ready for a European future without borders, separation or discrimination and we welcome the efforts of all who work for that”, said Ambassador Peter Sorensen, Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and EUSR. On behalf of the EU Delegation to BiH, the event was attended by Giulio Zanni, the Head of its Banja Luka Office.
The jury comprising of Darija Buzaković, Aleksandar Trifunović, Ljubiša Savanović, Ines Tanović and Almir Panjeta announced the winners.
