The European Union Delegation/EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina welcomes yesterday’s adoption of the Law on Privileged Pensions in the Federation Parliament. The EUD/EUSR commends the hard work of the FBiH Government to get this law adopted as well as the Delegates in the Federation Parliament who supported this important law. We note that the solution was achieved in a spirit of compromise between the different stakeholders.

The adoption of the law is necessary to ensure the long-term fiscal sustainability of the entire country. The adoption of the law is also a requirement by the International Monetary Fund to release funds needed for budgets in Bosnia and Herzegovina to finance services for citizens. We firmly believe that BiH policy-makers should focus on coherent and consistent economic and social reforms, promoting economic growth and development and a positive climate for business, and enhancing citizens’ welfare.
