Enabling police to effectively apply the Law on Free Access to Information

The EU funded project EU Support to Law Enforcement, organized the one-day workshop for officials in the RS Ministry of Interior and Brcko District on 18 April 2013 in the Ministry of Interior of RS headquarters in Banja Luka. 

The aim of was to familiarize participants with the Law on Free Access to Information and its application. 27 participants from the RS Ministry of Interior and Brcko District attended this workshop. The Slovenian expert lecturer provided an overview on how Slovenian police were dealing with public requests for information and also compared the existing legal framework regulating this field in the RS, Brčko District and Slovenia. Participants shared best practices in dealing with requests for information of public importance from the police. Advice and examples were also provided on setting up systems for releasing information of public importance, as well as on establishing a catalogue of information of public importance that can be published and made accessible to all citizens. 

The project is funded by the EU to the value of 7 Million Euros from IPA 2010. The project began in May 2012 and will continue until April 2014. The project consortium partners include the Ministries of Interior of Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, and of the Land Brandenburg of the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), and Transparency International BiH (as an Associate). Beneficiary partners are BiH law enforcement agencies at the state, entity, cantonal and Brčko District level.
