Letter of support by Ambassador Sorensen to LGBTI rights initiative

On the occasion of May 17th, the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO), the HoD/ EUSR jointly with a vast majority of EU MS and along with other international organisations, lent support to the initiative of the human rights non-governmental organisation, Sarajevo Open Centre, aimed at raising awareness and calling for the adoption of effective measures for the protection of LGBTI people in BiH.


Deputy Head of Delegation, Renzo Daviddi, on behalf of HoD/ EUSR Peter Sorensen, co-signed a letter addressed to Mr Ljubic, Minister for Human Rights and Refugees. The letter called upon the Minister to take action on the following issues: to ensure that BIH legislation and other measures are adequate to combat discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity, to help monitor the proper implementation of antidiscrimination measures, to promote the education of  representatives of law enforcement institutions such as judges, prosecutors, police officers and other relevant stakeholders are educated about their roles and responsibilities in regard to acts of discrimination against LGBT-persons; to ensure the human rights of LGBT people are protected, the persons or groups for which it is intended, must be aware of it and informed about the means and mechanisms available to make the best use of it.
