BiH postgraduates speak up on corruption in higher education

“Establishing a joint system for fighting corruption, stronger unification of the academic community and deepening co-operation with other agencies represents a foundation for future acting in the context of preventing corruption in higher education”. These were some of the recommendations identified by the postgraduate and doctoral students from all eight BiH public universities in a jointly-produced policy paper on the fight against corruption in higher education.

“The fight against corruption in higher education and education in general must be viewed as an essential priority because it affects not only the quality and efficiency of education services, but also the value of education and confidence in the education system,” said the Deputy Head of Delegation Dr. Renzo Daviddi, at the closing conference of the project, organised by the Faculty of Law at the University of Banja Luka for students, academic staff, representatives from institutions, civil society, and the media.

The production of the research paper and the conference were organised in the framework of the EUSR-funded project “Engaging BiH postgraduate students towards European integration”. Through this project, the Office of the EUSR is working to widen the range of people debating the issue of EU integration in BiH in a way that is relevant to their daily lives.

With the aim of strengthening relations between the BiH public universities and to empower academia to participate in a debate on the EU reform agenda, thus to contribute constructively to the stable and prosperous development of BiH.

In June 2012, EUSR completed a similar project with the Economic Faculty in Sarajevo. In 2013, the project was successfully implemented under the mentorship of Banja Luka University, Faculty of Law involving eight postgraduate and doctoral law students from the public universities in BiH.
